How do you choose a mobile massage in San Diego?
Choose a mobile massage in San Diego by checking a few things you can verify before you book: CAMTC certification, insurance, flat prices with the travel fee shown up front, what the therapist brings, how booking is confirmed, and the cancellation policy. Then match the pressure and style of massage to what your body needs.
Below is the checklist we'd hand a friend, with a line on how Vitality handles each point so you have something concrete to hold any service up against.
1. Verify CAMTC certification
The California Massage Therapy Council (CAMTC) is the statewide nonprofit that certifies massage professionals. To be certified, a therapist has to complete approved massage education and pass CAMTC's background review, and the certificate has to be renewed to stay current.
Checking takes about a minute. Ask for the therapist's certificate number, then search it on camtc.org. The lookup shows the name on the certificate and whether it's active. CAMTC also issues certified therapists a photo ID, so it's fair to ask to see it when they arrive.
How we handle it: our therapists are CAMTC-certified, and our certificate number, #97565, is printed on our about page so you can look it up yourself.
2. Ask about insurance
Professional liability insurance protects you and the therapist if something goes wrong during a session in your home. It's a normal thing to ask about, and a professional won't mind the question.
How we handle it: our therapists are insured and are members of ABMP, a professional association for massage therapists.
3. Look for flat prices, travel fee included
Mobile massage often carries a travel fee, because the therapist drives a full table setup to your door. That's reasonable. What you want is the whole number before you pay: session rate, travel fee, and any add-ons, with no surprises at the end.
How we handle it: a session is $129 for 60 minutes, $179 for 90, and $229 for 120, the same rate at a home, hotel, or office. Travel is free in Point Loma and Ocean Beach, $20 elsewhere in the City of San Diego, and $40 in the rest of the county. The booking form shows your total before you confirm. Our pricing page lists everything, and our breakdown of mobile massage cost in San Diego works through real totals.
4. Know what the therapist brings
A good in-home massage should feel like a studio session that happens to be in your living room. That means a proper massage table, not a floor mat or your bed, plus clean linens and whatever lotion or oil the session calls for. It's worth asking how much space you need, too, so you aren't moving furniture while the clock runs.
How we handle it: our therapists bring a professional table, fresh linens, lotions, and music. You clear a space about 7 by 9 feet near a power outlet. Setup takes about ten minutes and happens before your booked time, so the minutes you pay for are hands-on.
5. See how booking and confirmation work
You should know exactly when your appointment becomes real. Some services confirm instantly, others review each request first. Either can work, as long as it's clear which one you're dealing with and how you'll hear back.
How we handle it: you pick a time on our booking page, and we confirm by text or email, usually within one business day. We see clients 7am to 10pm daily. If the calendar doesn't show a time that suits you, send a request for any date and time window anyway. We can often make room.
6. Read the cancellation policy before you need it
Plans change, especially with kids, travel, or work in the mix. A clear written policy tells you what a late change costs before it happens.
How we handle it: cancelling or rescheduling is free with at least 24 hours' notice. Later cancellations and no-shows may be charged up to 50% of the service total. If we ever have to cancel, you choose a full refund or a free reschedule. The details are in our cancellation policy.
7. Linens, hygiene, and draping
Fresh linens for every client are the baseline. So is professional draping: you're covered by a sheet the whole time, and only the area being worked on is uncovered. If anything about draping or undressing makes you unsure, ask before the session. A professional will explain it plainly, and our guide to draping and what to wear covers it in detail.
How we handle it: every appointment gets fresh linens, and you're draped throughout. You undress to your comfort level, and the therapist steps out while you get on the table.
8. Match the pressure and the type of massage
The right service can still give you the wrong massage if nobody asks what you want. Before the session starts, you should get a quick conversation about where you're tight, what pressure you like, and anything the therapist should avoid.
As a rough guide, Swedish massage uses long, flowing strokes and suits relaxation. Deep tissue works slower and firmer into specific tight spots. Sports massage focuses on the muscles your training loads. Prenatal massage uses side-lying positions with pillows and bolsters, and it's worth checking with your doctor or midwife before booking. A session can also mix styles, and you can always ask for more or less pressure mid-session.
How we handle it: we offer Swedish, deep tissue, sports, prenatal (second and third trimester), couples, reflexology, cupping, and more. Each one has its own page under our services, and there's a notes field on the booking form for anything your therapist should know.
